CLOSED | Call for Entry: Online Group Exhibition - "Relax” June 2021
We are excited to announce that our June 2021 online group exhibition, “Relax” is being curated by photographic artist, independent curator and juror, and our Editor in Chief, Michael Kirchoff! To enter, all you need to do is read and respond to the following prompt with your analog photography. The best of these images will be showcased in an online show, beginning June 14th, 2021. Good luck!
Michael Kirchoff writes: I don’t know about you, but I’m f’ing exhausted. It’s a badge of honor for many. “I’ve got a lot on my plate right now,” or “maybe I’ll get to that; there’s just too much happening at the moment.” We love to profess our importance by the number of things we get done in a day. I’m incredibly guilty of this, and I need to curb this behavior. How do I create some equilibrium? How do I break out of the cycle of “always busy”?
Between life, fine-art photographic work, collaborations, and multiple side projects, I cannot fathom what it would be like to be bored. Maybe I need to try that on for a change. Even during the early days of the pandemic when others were baking sourdough bread and binge-watching any television series they could find, I was working on something in the name of always being productive. It all adds to stress and anxiety that begins to take a toll on our physical and mental well-being. There comes a time where there needs to be some balance in our lives that creates a shield from the things that wear us down. So what does one do then? Get away, take a load off, reconvene, go on sabbatical, and…RELAX!
During this last year, I’ve had fleeting memories of stepping back, if only for a minute, and noticing how precious the quiet in-between moments were. Now I’d like to adjust my priorities a bit and spend more time with occasions like those. I need your help, though. Actually, I need your help and your permission. Show me what relaxation and finding time in the small spaces of your life look like from your perspective. Build me a visual tutorial that maps out a way for me to move forward with this concept. How do I relax?
You’d be doing me a huge favor, and I look forward to following your guidance.
Deadline for Submissions is May 31st, 2021
