We are excited to announce that our December 2022 online group exhibition, “Migration,” is being curated by the Founder of jdc Fine Art, contemporary art gallery and dealer, Jennifer DeCarlo!

To enter, all you need to do is read and respond to the following prompt with your analog photography. The best of these images will be showcased in an online show, beginning December 19th, 2022. Good luck!

Prompt: The act of migration speaks to place and displacement.  It rings with the promise and hope for abundance elsewhere.  Expectations proven by time and memory have become hardwire instinct in some species.  For humans, the impetus to move may arise out of necessity or aspiration, curiosity or adventure.  The space between want and wonder is how life has come to blanket all known quarters.

I am interested in images that speak to the different aspects of migration (or disruption thereof).  The subjects have no bounds or restriction. I am interested in the diversity and universality of this phenomenon.

Deadline for Submissions is November 30th, 2022

About the Curator

Jennifer DeCarlo has a strong connection to the photographic field through her work in contemporary art galleries as a writer and patron of the arts. Before opening her own gallery, DeCarlo earned her MFA from UW-Madison, worked for a prominent Chicago gallery, and Writer and Editor for AIPAD (Association of International Photography Art Dealers).

DeCarlo has operated as an art dealer from Chicago, IL; San Diego, CA; and Gleneden Beach, OR.  Through her circle of represented artists, DeCarlo champions work that seeks to serve a higher purpose. Artists of interest tend to specialize in photography but are not limited by its bounds. jdc Fine Art was first established in San Diego in 2011. There, the gallery hosted six (and later two more) seasons of shows, exhibited in regional art fairs, and worked in support of area museums and photo-forward organizations. Having been introduced to the gallery world in Chicago, DeCarlo continues to cultivate connections with collectors and institutions she met there. DeCarlo resided in Chicago again in 2016-17 and collaborated on gallery and corporate exhibitions before returning to southern California. In the fall of 2019, DeCarlo took a space at the Salishan Coastal Lodge on the Oregon Coast; she presently uses this space to present special exhibitions for represented artists. DeCarlo recently became a member of AIPAD. She serves the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology as Board of Directors as Secretary.

Michael Behlen is a photography enthusiast from Fresno, CA. He works in finance and spends his free time shooting instant film and seeing live music, usually a combination of the two. He has self- published two Polaroid photobooks--“Searching for Stillness, Vol. 1” and “I Was a Pioneer,” literally a boxed set of his instant film work. He exhibited a variety of his photos at Raizana Teas, a Fresno tea room and health food store; his work there, “Polaroid Prints of Landscapes and Strangers,” was up for viewing during the months of June and July, 2014. He has been published, been interviewed, and been reviewed in a quantity of magazines, from” F-Stop” and “ToneLit” to “The Film Shooter’s Collective.” He loves the magic sensuality of instant film: its saturated, surreal colors; the unpredictability of the medium; it’s addictive qualities as you watch it develop.
